Go Skydiving

Throwing yourself out of a plane at 10,000 feet might be considered utter madness. But if close friends start wondering aloud about your sanity (or the contents of your will), you can reassure them that you'll be attached (literally) to an expert instructor and that, frankly, you're in for an experience so exhilarating that you'll probably never stop talking about it. Your experience begins with around an hour of instruction on skydiving and landing techniques, before you go up in the plane. You'll be securely harnessed to your instructor, who will help you jump from the plane (or at least help you fall with style). You'll get about 30 seconds of freefall, which is so completely incredible there's no point in us trying to describe it. Then your instructor will open the parachute and control your descent while you admire the view and try to come to terms with the adrenaline rush. Mind blowing.

How to tick this off your list:

Activity requirements
You have to be over the age of 16 and under 16 stone to do a tandem skydive. 40s and over MUST have their BPA medical form signed by doctor. All forms to be handed in on the day.

Cost
Somewhere in the region of about £200 depending on the country and time of year.

What Fiked recommends
Despite the obvious fear factor, skydiving is actually very safe and your instructor will have thrown themselves out of a plane thousands of times before you, so don’t worry about it. Many centers allowed mentally and physically disabled people to take part in tandem skydives so this would make an excellent gift for a friend. Your jumpsuit, helmet, goggle and gloves will all be provided for you and it’s recommended that you wear loose fitting clothing and flat soled shoes or trainers. Photos and videos are expensive, but if this is something that you’re probably only going to do once then you might want to invest in a copy - you won’t be allowed your own camera when you dive.

Best time to do this
You can’t fly if the weather conditions aren’t clear which may not be a problem in other countries, but in the UK, that makes it best to go in the Summer.

Where can I do this?
People skydive all over the world and this is the sort of thing that I like to pack into my holidays, but it’s up to you really. I liked Vegas and Spain.

Who we recommend does this:
Everyone, especially if you’re disabled. Disabled people are always being told they can’t do something physical, so this makes a nice change.
